New Provincial Coordinator for the Western and Northern CapeJanuary 2011 NEW PROVINCIAL COORDINATOR FOR THE WESTERN AND NORTHERN CAPE
We start the year with a new addition to our family. Heidi Nieuwoudt joins us as our new Western and Northern Cape Provincial Coordinator. Nieuwoudt’s career in nature conservation started in 1998 with the Working for Water Programme in Kouga, Eastern Cape. She brings with her extensive experience in various aspect of conservation, particularly in freshwater systems. She has been involved with Working for Wetlands since 2006 at project management and supervisory levels as the Conservation Services Officer within CapeNature. Her passion for wetlands has seen her chair the Southern Cape Wetlands Forum during 2010 and formed strong partnerships with stakeholders in the Hessequa area. Nieuwoudt completed her studies in Nature Conservation through UNISA and aims to do an Msc in 2012 on a wetland topic of her choice. We welcome Ms Nieuwoudt and wish her a wonderful and productive time with us.

World Wetlands Day 2011 will no longer be held in Limpopo. The World Wetlands Day celebrations will now form part of the International Local Action for Biodiversity (LAB) Workshop 2011, hosted by the Department of Environmental Affairs (DEA), Bergrivier Municipality and ICLEI—Local Governments for Sustainability. During the last week of November the Working for Wetlands team set out to visit the three projects that won the Best Project Awards for the 2009/10 financial year.
